ROCKstar of the Month of November: Josh Wilson

November’s ROCKstar of the Month is Josh Wilson! Josh wears many hats here at RTH, but his main role is that of our awesome Warehouse Manager! He’s been a valuable member of our team for 8 years now and has a lot of experience, expertise, and memories to show for it. During our peak season, the team relies heavily on Josh to keep the warehouse neat, organized, and ready to ROCK every single day. That’s why we’re so happy to call him this month’s ROCKstar of the Month!

“My favorite part of being on the RTH team is the environment and the people. I come to work everyday and I don’t hate my job. At work I build these amazing relationships with my coworkers and it’s the best!” – Josh Wilson, ROCKstar of the Month

When he was in high school, he’d often go to concerts and think, “I would love to do this as a career one day.” Though he took a slightly different path, he ended up in relatively the same place. Today, you can find him chasing that dream by helping produce some of the area’s biggest events that entertain people of all ages. He also added, “And who doesn’t love making brides’ and grooms’ dreams come true?”

  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? Flying, because I could go wherever I want. I wouldn’t have to drive anywhere so I could avoid traffic. I’d have more time for things and get more of my life back because I wouldn’t waste it in traffic.
  • Favorite pizza topping? Green peppers and onions, with (of course) crushed red pepper on top
  • Do you have any pets? I have a dog named Khloe and a cat named Cheese

“Josh has continued to push himself and our team towards excellence while helping to maintain a positive culture within our tech team at RTH. He has been thrown new obstacles every day and always looks for ways to improve and streamline our systems. He is always learning and trying to better himself at everything he touches.” – Ryan Durfee, Production Manager

ROTM_Josh_Wilson

One of the coolest events that he’s been a part of with Rock The House was the release party for Machine Gun Kelly’s album at Red Space. There was a small concert, and he was able to meet MGK as well. Josh and his best friend, Joey, worked it together which made it an even more memorable event for him.

When Josh isn’t at RTH keeping our warehouse in tip-top shape, you can find him racing or working on cars. You can also find him around a campfire, joking around with friends, and enjoying adult beverages.

ROCKstar of the Month of July: Garrett Beck

July’s ROCKstar of the Month is Garrett Beck! Garrett is one of the newest members of the RTHAV production team, but he’s quickly become a driving force of positivity throughout the warehouse and brings that energy to everyone he works with, and every event he works on.

ROTM_Garrett_Beck

“My favorite part of being on the Rock The House team is the more social atmosphere added to the corporate atmosphere. It’s so much more than speakers in a room; we get to be the hype men for our events. It’s about making sure the guests have a great time and we put on an awesome event for them.” – Garrett Beck, ROCKstar of the Month

Despite only being with RTH for about 6 months, he’s worked many of our more elaborate events and has done an amazing job on all of them. His favorite? A huge “mega-mitzvah” held at the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio. He enjoyed that it brought so many of our team members together for one event. Plus, everyone had a chance to go all out with their performances, costumes, and production elements that night.

ROTM_Garrett_Beck

A Few Fun Facts About Garrett Beck:

  • Favorite guilty pleasure song? “Toxic” by Britney Spears
  • Favorite song and/or artist? Blink-182
  • Favorite movie? The 13th Warrior
  • Favorite TV show? Westworld
  • Favorite pre-event snack? Red Bull
  • Favorite post-event snack? Taco Bell
  • Biggest fear? Being stranded somewhere
  • Where’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled? Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. It’s an island that used to be unreachable during certain times of the year because of the water-level covering the causeway. There’s a fortress on top of it, and back in the day soldiers would get stuck in quicksand trying to storm it. It was a virtually impenetrable fortress, and really awesome to see in person.
  • How do you take your coffee? Straight black
  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? Telekinesis, because it would make load-ins and load-outs much quicker.

“Garrett has not only taken on his role of Video Specialist but has also found time to work as an audio engineer and stepped up to assist with some internal audio training. Additionally, he’s been training new and existing team members, making suggestions for equipment to help our team improve, and offering his knowledge to problem solve. He’s willing to share his wealth of knowledge and skills with everyone and we are so happy to have him as part of our team.” – Tricia Adams, Production Assistant

ROTM_Garrett_Beck

Garrett and his family have had a long history in the event/entertainment industry. His grandfather was in a band and had a recording studio at his home in Texas. His father was a roadie for that very band and always enjoyed music. He made sure to make music and performance a huge part of Garrett’s life as well. For him, it felt like a natural calling to go into the events industry.

Garrett enjoys working with everyone at RTH because they’re all so appreciative of each other and ready to get the job done and get it done right. When he’s not producing incredible events with the team, you can find him at Medieval combat competitions, working with the animals at his in-laws’ farm, or playing video games.

ROCKstar of the Month of March: Jeremy Guffin

March’s ROCKstar of the Month is Jeremy Guffin! Jeremy started out with Rock The House as a load-in/load-out team member and, through hard work and dedication, has worked all the way up to being a Project Manager. He’s a creative individual who loves working here because every day is different and he thinks his coworkers are awesome!

“At first, I just needed a job, but I stayed in the event industry because it’s a dynamic environment and it’s always changing. I love that I’m never bored! I find it so rewarding that before, during, and after the events we produce, I get to see the smiles on clients’ and guests’ faces because of what our team has done.” – Jeremy Guffin, ROCKstar of the Month

In Jeremy’s 6.5 years of working at Rock The House, he’s been involved with many different events in a few different roles. Among his favorites are the AAble After Party, S.W.A.P. (Students With A Purpose) event, State Chem event, Industry: The Product Conference, and Zippity Zoo Doo. When asked why these are his favorite events, he said he loves these ones especially because he had the opportunity to be very creative in his design. Any chance to be expressive and technical is his forte!

  1. Where’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled? I’ve been to a lot of places, but Toronto was probably the coolest. It was so culturally diverse! You can visit 20 different places in one day and bus passes are cheap so it was easy and fun!
  1. How do you take your coffee? With coffee in it
  1. If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Turning water into coffee

“Jeremy continues to challenge himself and those around him to do better and learn more. He is always looking for better ways to serve our customers and make our technicians job in the field as easy and efficient as can be.” – Ryan Durfee, Production Manager

The biggest things Jeremy feels he’s gained from working at Rock The House are confidence and leadership skills. We believe that’s exactly what makes Jeremy such an awesome team member to work with and produce ROCKin’ events with!

ROCKstar of the Month of October: Marissa Diaz

October’s ROCKstar of the Month is Marissa Diaz! While she has always excelled in her role as Executive Assistant to the COO, her responsibilities and skills have grown significantly in her four years at RTH. At any given time, you may find her coordinating large-scale event planning efforts, in the warehouse prepping, or on-site assisting with video and media content!

RTH Rockstar of the Month, Marissa Diaz

My favorite thing about being on the RTH team is the culture because everyone is a like a family member. It’s not like most workplaces where you just show up, do you job, and leave. On top of that, you learn something new every day… but it’s when you least expect it. For example, I came on board as an admin, handling paperwork and being an assistant, but now I’m also a content manager and handling on-site video. At Rock The House, you can choose your path and are encouraged to branch out and expand your knowledge. It’s an amazing place to learn, grow, and challenge yourself. – Marissa Diaz, ROCKstar of the Month

Marissa has a lot of experience being quick on her feet – literally and figuratively! As a dancer, figure skater, and instructor, she has spent years honing her technique as well as directing and producing Skate Dance Dream (SDD). Before joining the Rock The House team, she was also a researcher for IceNetwork.com and “Olympic Ice,” a figure skating show which covered stories during the Winter Olympics. After working on the show and producing SDD, she learned to troubleshoot a variety of situations that were thrown at her. And she felt the event industry was a logical next step!

RTH Rockstar of the Month, Marissa Diaz

A Few Fun Facts About Marissa Diaz:

  • Favorite guilty pleasure song? It’s a tie between Hanson’s “Where’s the Love” and S Club 7’s “S Club Party”
  • Favorite artist? *NSYNC
  • Favorite movie? Another tie… between Mulan and Blades of Glory
  • Favorite TV show? Alias
  • Favorite pre-event snack? Fruit by the Foot
  • Favorite cartoon? Animaniacs
  • Biggest fear? Failure. Also spiders… but I can step on them. I can’t step on failure.
  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? Teleportation because I hate waiting to get somewhere.

“While Marissa has always excelled in a support roll, she also saw a deficit between the capabilities of our amazing technical team and the opportunities our sales team was able to present to clients through the craft of video and GFX. To close that gap, she worked with our technical managers to learn the top softwares that we use for GFX, blending, video playback, switching and special visual effects, allowing her to better design shows with our clients that truly allowed them to come to life!” – Ryan Konikoff, Chief Operating Officer

RTH Rockstar of the Month, Marissa Diaz

Of the many events Marissa has worked on, she shared that one of her favorites was the Great Lakes region awards celebrations for Metro last year. “It was so fun to bring their region to our backyard and have a chance to show off Cleveland,” says Marissa. “Their company is known for creativity when it comes to company celebrations and it was definitely unique. We had the chance to coordinate two very different parties for their team – the internal awards at Tenk West Bank, which was 90s hip-hop themed, and the dealer awards at the Hilton, which was modern, classy, and very cool.”

When not at Rock The House, Marissa continues to ice skate and dance, working both as a coach and teacher. She also enjoys going to concerts and theater shows.

ROCKstar of the Month of January: Evan Guffin

New year, new ROCKstar! This month’s honoree is Evan Guffin, one of our Lead Technicians. Evan has been with Rock The House for over six years. Since joining the team, he has progressed from working as an audio technician to leading a team. He is willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and strives to make everything around him better.

Evan Guffin, Rock The House Technical Lead

Evan grew up around performance and performed as a kid, but eventually realized that he liked the behind-the-scenes factor more than being on the stage. His interest in the technical side of things even led him to study event production.

“Evan has excelled in and helped develop and mold our audio department in a positive way. He continues to make improvements on the look, feel, and sound of all of his events. His knowledge and attention to detail has given him the opportunity to project manage several Signature Events successfully.” – Ryan Durfee, Production Manager

Evan Guffin, Technical Lead at Rock The House

While Evan works in many areas and on many types of events, he shared that his favorite event to work on was the Cleveland Metroparks Centennial Celebration. “The Metroparks is a great organization and client of Rock The House,” said Guffin. “Their event was a great display of many of Rock The House’s audiovisual aspects.”

A Few Fun Facts About Evan Guffin:

  • Favorite guilty pleasure song? “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls
  • Favorite movie? Blues Brothers
  • Favorite TV show? The Office
  • Favorite song/artist? Foo Fighters
  • Favorite pre-event snack? Banana
  • Favorite post-event snack? Chips and salsa
  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I’d like to fly, I hate sitting in traffic.

Evan Guffin, Rock The House Technical Lead, Crowd Surfing

Yep, that’s Evan getting a “lift” from the RTH team!

“One of my favorite things about being on the RTH team is seeing the concept that a client has imagined for an event come together and then seeing their reaction to it when it is done.” – Evan Guffin, ROCKstar of the Month

When not at work, Evan can be found working out at the gym, enjoying craft beers, and spending time with his friends and family.

“Evan is someone who we know can handle whatever we throw at him. He personifies RTH culture by always being willing to step up and help out. He does what needs to be done and is more than willing to help anyone that asks!” – Tricia Adams, Production Assistant

Get to Know Our Band: Rock The House LIVE!

ROCK THE HOUSE LIVE! – HIGHLIGHT REEL from RTH Multimedia on Vimeo.

Cleveland is a town that loves to ROCK. And the words “rock and roll” invoke all kinds of imagery – heads banging, messy hair, and all manner of debauchery. Now let’s try “party band.” What do you see? Your uncle’s classic rock cover band playing in a divey bar? Sloppy, neon-clad dudes dancing around at a college bash? Or perhaps you imagine a group that specializes in only one style of music – Top 40, Motown, Rock, Pop, etc.

So, what is a party planner to do? You want entertaining, genre-spanning music and professionalism, but you’re struggling to find it.

A few years back, Rock The House Entertainment encountered this exact challenge. Our team was planning a couple big events that needed a strong party band. “As we searched around the region, we couldn’t find an act that we felt comfortable putting on stage at an array of events and that could consistently and frequently perform at a top level,” says Matt Radicelli, Founder and CEO of Rock The House Entertainment.

True to form, the team came up with a solution. “We set out to bring together truly talented individuals that were passionate, caring, and sincere about their work and the people around them,” says Radicelli. “Our goal was that the band would have the same style and flair of our brand. They would be clean cut and professional, without any of the negative stereotypical characteristics of a party band.”

Amanda Corrigan, Singer of Rock The House Live!     Jovan Wilder, Singer of Rock The House Live!

Enter Rock The House Live!, a high energy, dance-driven party band, made up of Cleveland’s most talented musicians and vocalists. The group tailors its music to any occasion – be it a wedding, corporate event, high school dance, or bar show – and they’re constantly adding music to their repertoire.

Dennis Nero, Drummer of Rock The House Live!

We interviewed Dennis Nero, bandleader and drummer of Rock The House Live!, and Jeff Kutz, VP of Sales, to find out more about this impressive group.

How would you describe Rock The House Live?

Jeff Kutz: “Our band’s specialty is that they’re a party band. That means that they cover all genres and don’t just specialize in oldies or current music. On top of being talented musicians, they’re energetic performers. They go out into the crowd and interact with guests and really put on a memorable show.”

How does the band prepare for different types of shows?

Dennis Nero: “Once a show is booked, the RTH team gives us an idea of the genres and specific artists that the client likes, and we start tailoring the set list. We figure out how many of the songs we are able to start learning and we get to work. We’re always learning music and always trying to change and grow. It keeps it interesting!”

Besides rehearsals, how does the band prep for shows? Is there a pre-show routine?

DN: “This group is a bunch of really professional, amazing musicians that all take complete pride in doing what they do. With this band, it’s all homework. You learn your parts, then at practice, we see where we’re at and what work needs to be done. Literally, 100% of the time, we hit the stage for a show and it is gold. Everyone knows what they have to do. These are the highest quality musicians I’ve ever played with.”

What are some common concerns/misconceptions about hiring a live party band?

JK: “People tend to think that a DJ can cover more music than a band. In this case, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Our band covers every single genre.”

DN: “We’re like a live band running as a DJ, in a constant medley. Like a DJ, there are no stops. By doing that, you get to hit on almost 60 songs.”

JK: “On top of that, when you book our band, you get a DJ/MC combo as well. So when the band is on break, the music doesn’t stop. Also, you get a master of ceremonies who will run your evening flawlessly, entertain the crowd, and make sure all formalities are taken care of.”

Final thoughts?

JK: “In the end, every client’s needs are different. Booking a live band has to be the best decision for the client. However, if someone is on the fence and concerned about sound or style, we’d be happy to invite them to a band practice or put them in touch with someone who has booked the band in the past.”

DN: “From my experience, if a client wants the energy at their event to be at a completely different level, bringing in Rock The House Live! sets a whole new bar for the energy and fun.
