March Team Member of the Month: Nick Borelli

2013 Has Been Big For Nick

Rock The House’s Marketing and Communications Director, Nick Borelli has already had a big 2013 and it’s only March!

As the Vice President of Communications of the Cleveland Chapter of ISES (International Special Events Society), Nick ensures that event professionals in the North East Ohio area are kept up to date with the monthly events ISES plans. In addition, Nick is the voice of ISES Cleveland on their various social media efforts. In 2013, Nick has taken on the additional responsibility of the position of Marketing Chair for the state wide ISES Ohio WOW Awards. This event takes place on April 19th at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and celebrates the best events in Ohio from 2012.marketing rock the house entertainment

Starting in January 2013, Nick was elected to the board of directors for The SEARCH Foundation for a two year term. The SEARCH Foundation is a national non-profit that raises money for event professionals in times of need. As someone who has been in the event industry since he was fourteen years old, giving back to this group means a lot to him. As well as being on the board of directors, Nick is the Chairman of the Public Relations Committee for SEARCH and is engaged in a campaign to raise awareness for this charitable organization. Nick assisted in the recent SEARCH Foundation fundraiser in Chicago this January.

Nick spent a week in Chicago this January to attend a ISES leadership summit, a SEARCH Foundation board meeting, and fundraiser, as well as the 2013 TSE conference. TSE (The Special Event) is an annual conference and trade show with thousands of attendees from all areas of the event industry. Nick had been selected in 2012 as one of the ten “Voices of TSE“, a group of event professionals who blogged on trends leading up to the January event. While at TSE, Nick went to a variety of educational sessions, networked with an international network of contacts, and was able to attend some of the best industry events of the year.

The 2013 year began with Rock The House’s big bridal show push. RTH has a large presence at the Cleveland and Akron Today’s Bride Bridal Shows as well as attendance at the Ever After Bridal Show, Cleveland Jewish News JStyle Show at The Ritz, the Quicken Loans Arena Bridal Show, and a number of event venue bridal showcases. These efforts are executed by a large team and is driven by the marketing department.

Nick had the opportunity to travel abroad on a much-needed break in February to Mexico. For his fifth wedding anniversary, he and his wife visited the Riviera Maya region as well as the island of Cozumel. As someone who is very connected to dozens of social media outlets, this trip included his largest stretch of time “unplugged” in a decade. Being able to refresh and unwind is crucial in the deadline driven world of events.

Upon his return Nick was a guest at the sixth annual CBC Magazine Connector’s Choice Awards at the Galleria at Erieview. Rock The House was nominated for three awards and Nick won for Networking Star against a few really great networkers and friends of the company.

The next week, Nick was featured in an interview on 19 Action News Cleveland on the rise of popularity of the social media site, Pinterest. The interview was both about Pinterests popularity and that some men have started to adopt this platform that has been dominated by a female demographic since it’s inception. The article also featured the Rock The House Pinterest Page which has images from some of the best weddings, corporate events, and bar / bat mitzvahs.

After only two months of 2013 in the books, there is still even more time for Nick to make an impact for Rock The House. We’re all looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring!

A Night That Rocked

Tuesday August 24, 2010
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

By: Jessa (Goodworth) Hochman

On Tuesday, August 24, 2010 an outstanding selection of Event professionals came together at one rocking venue for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual Rock Star Night. While in the company of:
Ghost Light Productions
Something New Floral and Events
Fallon’s Photography
Event Source
L’Nique Linens
MVP Valet Services
Executive Caterers
SharpShooter Imaging
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
Rock The House Entertainment
Vincent Lighting Systems

Rock Hall - Rock Star Night

Upon arriving at the event, I was politely and energetically greeted by MVP Valet. They swiftly showed me onto a red carpet, provided by Event Source and I was on my way into this glamorous get-together. I was offered a drink – provided by Executive Caterers. According to Nick Borelli of Executive Caterers:

The introductory drink that each guest received was the Sparkling Hibiscus. I added San Pellegrino water to The Lounging Gourmet’s Hibiscus Elixir. The Lounging Gourmet, is a local company producing the best cocktail mixers I’ve ever had the pleasure trying.  The reason we wanted to introduce everyone with a drink is because it really helps acclimate people to a room quickly. It’s a great welcoming gesture that creates a real V.I.P. feeling.

I certainly felt like a V.I.P.  I checked in with security, and because of my journalistic mood, I asked each security guard, “Who was the coolest Rock Star you have met since you’ve been working here at the Rock Hall”. One said, “Alice Cooper – he is the nicest guy”. And the other told me, “I will never forget meeting Lady Gaga’s Dad – he’s so normal”.

I took the elevator upstairs to the café level where I found many of my event friends networking and meeting potential new clients. I found my co-worker, Jeff Kutz, from Rock The House, hanging out with Tyler from MVP Valet Services and Marci Izeman from Executive Caterers, discussing the fabulous food and drink provided by Executive Caterers.

As usual, I saw the gang from Event Source. I went through and tasted every hors d’oeurve and dessert with Rick Turner, a fun-loving foodie.

While Deb Hermann from Ghostlight Productions was taking a shot of tequila from a Rock The House shot glass, I found the hostess of the event – Anne Siegal with The Rock Hall with the MC of the night – RTH’s owner, Matt Radicelli.

I found two of the most charming men- Joe Mineo of Something New Floral and Events with Charles from  Executive Caterers. Charles discussed how wonderful it was to see old friends and meet new clients, and Joe was anxiously waiting to recieve a temporary tattoo!
It was a wonderful night that made me fall more in love with Cleveland’s event industry. In addition to spending time at this first-class venue, all of the extra special touches- the valet service, the red carpet and the specialty drinks – made all in attendance feel like REAL Rock Stars.
