ROCKstar of the Month of October: Brandon Pulliam

October’s ROCKstar of the Month is Brandon Pulliam! Brandon started at RTH about a year ago and since then he’s been ROCKing many of our events as one of our incredible dancers. If you don’t see him on the dance floor, you can also find him broadening his skills as an Activity Host and/or DJ Assistant. In whichever role he plays, he’s made strides to be a leader both on and off the dance floor. We are so proud to call him this month’s ROTM!

“I’ve always had a love for dancing ever since I can remember; line dancing, Spanish dancing, you name it. Getting to do that for my job is awesome! When I heard about the job at RTH I knew it was tailor-made for me. Getting to spread the love of dance to people of all ages is super rewarding and one of the best parts of working here.” – Brandon Pulliam, ROCKstar of the Month

His journey at RTH began with auditions just like all of our entertainers, but his story is a little different than most. “I was actually sick on the day of auditions, but I knew I had to go because this role was perfect for me.” So he went, auditioned, and ended up getting a call that he got the job just a few days before his birthday. It was the perfect birthday present for this aspiring entertainer.

A Few Fun Facts About Brandon Pulliam:

  • Favorite guilty pleasure song? “Bye Bye Bye” by *NSYNC – Nobody wants to admit it, but who doesn’t like that song??
  • Favorite song and/or artist? Chris Brown – I love music I can dance to and you can pretty much dance to any song he makes.
  • Favorite movie? Step Up or The Fast & the Furious
  • Favorite TV show? Shameless or The Walking Dead
  • Favorite pre-event snack? Spicy Nacho Doritos
  • Favorite post-event snack? Burgers or hot dogs back at the Warehouse
  • Where’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled to? L.A. – there’s always something to do there no matter the time or the day! Between beaches, clubs, and walking around in general, you’re never bored.
  • What gives you energy? I get my energy from the people I’m on the event with! Especially when I’ve worked with them before or they’re my good friends. We hype each other up and make the event fun for everyone involved! Monster Energy helps too.
  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? The ability to teleport – I’d never be late to anything ever!
  • Favorite pizza topping? Jalapeños
  • Do you have any pets? I have a 2-year-old Siberian Husky named Bones and a 5-month-old Pit-Bull/German Shephard mix named Zeus! I’m definitely a dog person.

“Brandon is a greatly talented dancer that quickly grew from a new face on the team to a leader on the dance floor. He continuously shows up with a positive attitude and is always willing to lend an extra hand to help out. He is a great asset to every team, and does a fantastic job interacting with guests and clients!” – Kelly Clymer, Entertainment Manager/Lead Entertainer

Brandon feels that working at Rock The House has helped him gain confidence and improved his communication skills in so many ways. He loves working with all our guests, especially little kids. While entertaining at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for their event, Boo at the Zoo, he’s had the opportunity to show little kids how fun dancing can be no matter your skill level! It’s a part of the job that fuels him in his chosen career path and makes the hard work worth it.

He really loves the comradery between himself and his fellow ROCKstars as well. “I started last August [2018] and everyone has worked with me to bring me up to speed with dancing. Now I’m training to be a DJ! I’ve always thought it was cool, but I never thought I’d get the opportunity to actually be a DJ one day!”

ROCKstar of the Month of December: Sean Tyrrell

December is here once again, which makes this our last ROCKstar of the Month for 2016! As a company that does work in many different sectors of the event industry, we found it only fitting that we choose a ROCKstar with many different talents; Sean Tyrrell.

Approaching his 4-year mark with Rock The House, Sean has filled a wide variety roles throughout the company. Originally starting as a dancer and party motivator in the spring of 2013, Sean has since moved in the direction of a technician, working regularly in our warehouse and behind the scenes at many events. Most recently, Sean has really showcased his passion for lighting, becoming one of our most skilled lighting designers, and even working on shows with artists such as rising pop sensation Alex Angelo. Sean also has many interests related to DJing, and still dances at RTH shows from time to time.

A Few Fun Facts About Sean Tyrrell:

  • Favorite Cartoon Character? Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch), because he knows when to be serious, but still has a little bit of a crazy side.
  • Favorite Movie? Disney’s “Motorcrossed”
  • Favorite Artist(s)? Childish Gambino
  • Post-Event Snack? Gyros!
  • Favorite RTH Event? The year we provided production for COSE at Kalahari. It was a great event all around, and that place is a really cool venue.
  • Favorite Thing About Being on the RTH Team? My favorite part about working for Rock The House is the opportunity to be a part of a team that puts on such awesome events.”

“I love having Sean as part of the RTH family. His team mentality and versatility make him unique. Whether he is a party motivator, photo technician, LD, camera operator, ceremony engineer, or simply working in the shop, he continues to grow and develop himself, all while helping those around him do the same.  This Swiss Army knife skillset lends itself to continually strengthening our teams and events.” – Ben Allison, Production Manager

Sean proves to be a valuable asset to our team, and we know that he will only continue to impress us with his talents for years to come. Thank you again, Sean, for all that you do for Rock The House!

October Team Member of the Month: Dezare’ Foster

Versatile. Professional. Energetic.

Dez is one of the most versatile assets Rock The House has. Our best employees are cross-trained in a variety of positions. Having a team member who understand their other teammate’s roles is pretty powerful. These team members relate to and have a much better understanding of the importance of each position at any given event. Dez has been trained and has show experience as a Dancer, Photo Magic and Photo Booth Technician, DJ, Lighting Designer, and an MC. She is a really great example of how versatile team members are our best.

First and foremast, Dez is a dancer. She recently helped us run our first Rock The House Dance Jam. She proved herself a leader before she was given a formal leadership title. This is important because it was this mentality that helped pave the way for her role as a show lead. Since she had the mentality of a true leader among peers, it was natural for us to train her in the role of a formal show lead.

Dez’s work ethic is another pillar of what makes her special. Late nights, high energy dancing, equipment load-ins and load-outs, and back to back events are not for everyone. The real sign of a true entertainer is being able to put in the hard work and still have fun during the show. Dez is a true entertainer.

Dez’s advice to new team members is this:

“I would tell them its not easy, because it takes a lot of work to load in, set up and put on a great show. But in the moments when we’re dancing or singing with abandon, that’s what makes it all worth while. My favorite part about being on a Rock The House team is the all the knowledge and experience that each person brings, which allows me to learn from them.”

Creative & Talent Director, Ryan Konikoff, explains why Dez was chosen this month:

“Every month is a great one for Dez, but this month we have really seen her shine. From being a team lead to getting tons of requests, and getting mentioned by name by clients in evaluations, her month has been spectacular!”

Thanks for all your hard work, Dez. You’ve made a big impact on our client’s lives and the lives of our team. You are VERY appreciated!

Team Member of The Month – Ernie Scales

Rock The House Entertainment is rolling out a formal Team Member of The Month program coming out of our 2012 All Staff Meeting this April. That meant that management was faced with setting a precedent and prototype for this honor. What a relief it was for us to have just the person…Ernie Scales.

cleveland-dancer-entertainment

Head of Human Resources at Rock The House, Ryan Konikoff said:

“Selecting Ernie was an easy choice. So far, he holds the lead for the most requests in 2012 by clients. Every MC always asks to have him on their events, and he lives the idea of leading by example. Ernie takes dance classes in his free time to learn all different types of dance that may help him as a RTH dancer, he always has a smile on his face, and you can tell he just really love the job”

In the year and a half that Ernie has been with us, he has shown an eagerness to learn, consistency, drive, and character. This isn’t even mentioning his amazing skills! Don’t just take our word for it! He made it farther than hundreds of other competitive dancers at the 2012 “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 9 tryouts in Los Angeles. You can read more about that fascinating experience here.

Ernie says it best:

“What makes me a unique dancer is my passion. I use dancing to describe who I am and how I feel. I basically use dance to let people see my true personality. I live for dance and I dance to live. What makes a dancer unique is not about their moves it’s about heart.”

When we told Ernie he was selected to be the Team Member of the month he was grateful. He then told us he didn’t feel like he was a member of a team, however. To him, he’s a member of a family. We couldn’t agree more!
