ROCKstar of the Month of June: Anthony Jamison

June’s ROCKstar of the Month is Anthony Jamison! Anthony gives his talents to the Rock The House team in our entertainment division as both a dancer and a DJ. He has worked for the RTH team for about 4 years and always brings energy & passion to his work!

“I feel like the biggest thing I’ve gained from RTH is confidence. I still have my moments, but my level of confidence is way up. With DJing and dancing, I’ve learned to do it more for the love of it instead of just to impress people. Learning from my teammates at Rock The House has really helped me become more confident as a performer.” – Anthony Jamison, ROCKstar of the Month

Anthony says his favorite thing about being on the RTH team is being able to work with and learn from so many different people with so many unique backgrounds. Every time he works, he learns new dance moves from other dancers. He also learns from DJ Flightz and Nick while they’re DJing by watching them and how they read the crowd. He also loves the friendships and bonds he’s gained at Rock The House.

A Few Fun Facts About Anthony Jamison:

  • Favorite guilty pleasure song? “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls
  • Favorite song and/or artist? “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran (Jack Wins Remix)
  • Favorite movie? Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse
  • Favorite TV show? Bob’s Burgers
  • Favorite pre-event snack? Fruit snacks – I can eat 5 bags before a show.
  • Favorite post-event snack? Oatmeal cream pies
  • Favorite animated character? Kakashi from Naruto
  • Biggest fear? Water
  • Where’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled? Florence, Italy
  • How do you take your coffee? I don’t actually drink coffee; I’m a big apple and orange juice drinker. I’ll always have a couple of those in my bag for shows.
  • If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? Teleportation – I always have something going on last minute that causes me to be slightly on time or slightly late to everything. So, if I could just pop up and be on time that would be better for everyone.

“Anthony has always been an extremely talented individual and the growth he has shown over the last few years is a testament to the hard work and dedication he’s put into his craft to grow not only professionally but personally as well. At events, Anthony simply knows how to entertain. He is always loved by our clients and is one of our most requested dancers. I’m truly proud to have Anthony on our team and always look forward to having him on the events I work. His abilities and skills are a true asset to the overall quality of the entertainment aspect of our events.” – Nick Duvé, General Manager, Entertainment Division

His love for dance is what attracted him to the live events industry. Anthony said he once did a performance for a Latin community group of kids and the next year they were asked back to perform. When he came back, some of the children came up to him and told him that after they saw him, they were inspired. Many said they realized that they had to change some of their behaviors in order to work on their talents and pursue a dream of dance too. Anthony said that’s when he decided to pursue dance as a career and loves that this industry gives him a platform to reach out to people in a positive way.

When he’s not at RTH, Anthony enjoys walking his dog Tequila, watching anime, and playing competitive video games. In his own words, he says he’s generally a bit of a homebody.

5 More Mitzvah Concepts to Consider (Part 2)

As we explained in Part 1 of this series, choosing just one event theme may be limiting to families who have a variety of interests and passions. However, in our experience, a theme or concept can be used a tool to make decisions easier to make and schematics simpler to plan.

With that said, here are even more Mitzvah concepts that are sure to WOW your guests and celebrate your son or daughter!

Bright Lights – Big Cities!

Considering a "Cleveland" Theme? Choose an iconic landmark as your venue! We'd suggest MOCA Cleveland or the Rock Hall.

Considering a “Cleveland” Theme? Choose an iconic landmark as your venue! We’d suggest MOCA Cleveland or the Rock Hall.

Large Cities (New York, Las Vegas, Paris, CLEVELAND, to name a few) are packed with iconography, fast-paced activities and characteristic atmospheres, food and people. Consider a city-themed event. This way, your son or daughter can celebrate their big day with their very favorite people… in their very favorite place.

Disco

The seventies brought us amazing music, daring dance moves, and best of all… the iconic disco ball. Groovy parents and crazy children alike will “totally dig” this far out trip through time.

Winter Wonderland

There are so many ways to recreate winter indoors with modern event technology. From winter-themed GOBOS, to bright white confetti cannons, your outdoorsy son or daughter will melt over this very cool Mitzvah Concept.

Just Dance!

RTH Brings 2016 Today’s Bride Show To Another Level!

We loved the 2016 Today’s Bride January bridal shows at The John S. Knight Center and Cleveland’s IX Center! The energy level at every show was beyond contagious. From attendees to exhibitors, everyone genuinely wanted to be there (us especially)! Our team had a blast participating in the shows and meeting hundreds of newly engaged couples from the Cleveland, Akron, Canton and surrounding areas.

The Fashion Show:

The Today’s Bride fashion shows have become a ‘must-see’ attraction at the Today’s Bride shows and for the past eight years, we have been proud to be their exclusive entertainment and audio-visual partner.

At this year’s’ fashion show, Rock The House’s own DJ Flightz and MC Nick Duvé kept the energy going for both the models and the audiences.  Over 70 fashions from 10 different companies graced this years runway! Spotify even had a spike in tags that day from the audience searching for the amazing mashup mixes we selected.

Our Built-“Up” Booth:

Now, as an exhibitor, we wanted to stand out from the crowd and be seen from all areas of the convention centers. So, we decided to build UP!  Yes, we were the first two-story exhibit at a Today’s Bride bridal show.

Today's Bride Booth

We incorporated marquee L-O-V-E letters, chandeliers and uplighting to create a fun and unique booth. The DJ spinning tunes on the second floor was the cherry on top (literally)!

The Today’s Bride Show Manager, Jennifer Fyffe, said it best:

“Rock The House, you set your own bar higher every year. This year was no exception. Not only did you win the Best Booth Award, you won Best-in-Show. Truly a show-stopper remembered by all!”

Oh, and the best part of it all? We’ve got it on video! Go ahead, check it out!

Team Member of the Month – Sean Tyrrell

A Helping Hand When You Need It the Most

Rock The House is a living, and breathing machine. The people within the company are always going to keep the heart beating and the joints moving. Every so often we bring on an employee who takes us from a jogging state to a full on sprint. That is exactly the bolt of energy that Sean Tyrrell has given to keep up our pace.
sean tyrrell cleveland dj dancer
Sean has been with RTH for a little bit over a year now. He considers this a team and rarely calls his tasks ‘work’ since someone is always willing to help out. Holding a mantra of being friendly to everyone you meet while working has led him to some memorable events. Being a dancer and a production technician gives him an unique edge as an entertainer.
We asked him his favorite memory from working at Rock The House:
“I was working photo magic at a Mitzvah but it didn’t stop me from dancing with some of the kids at my booth. The other dancers started a dance circle to show the kids what they’ve got. The looks on all the kids’ faces were priceless. I was called out to the floor and I did a slow motion head-slide that slowly sped up with the song. The atmosphere of that party was unreal!”
It wasn’t until the begging of this summer that Sean really proved he had what it takes to be in the spotlight on the dance floor and behind the scenes.  He stepped up to take the lead on show load-in/outs, danced on high profile events, and operated photo systems for high profile clients. Many people may not see the depth in those tasks, but Sean understood how it was a direct reflection of Rock The House and how people see us.
Our Creative and Talent Coordinator, Ryan Konikoff, added his impression of Sean:
“Sean is the kind of guy you want working next to you, he’s fun and upbeat, but understands the company and clients’ goals and works towards those while keeping a positive demeanor.  With a higher than average amount of bookings over the last summer, he has made himself available to help the team either as an onsite tech or staying late in the warehouse to make sure the shows are prepped and ready to go.”
1523863_10203457378054022_1113484287_o
A year ago we could not see how lucky we were to have Sean on our team, but now that he is here, we can’t thank him enough. We are always looking for the next rising star and a year can tell a lot about the people you have working for you. Sean proved he has what it takes to be a high profile member of the Rock The House team.

Newest RTH DJ!

Introducing DJ Scratch!

april fools!

We’ve been putting together a new division at Rock The House that is focused on adding social elements to events. Working towards this goal, we’ve brought on DJ Scratch to help us engage with more people online. As a cat, he understands what people want to see on the Internet intuitively.

Scratch is never grumpy and loves Mondays so he is available for events any day of the week. He is going to make a big impact on our social media efforts as well by…well…just being a cat. Cats were early adopters of the social media online while dogs met face to face at dog parks. His involvement in marketing will keep him busy in the day and his DJ skills will be apparent in the evenings. Who knows…maybe you’ll see Scratch at your next event!

June 2012 Team Member of The Month

DJ Shane ROCKS!

Each month, Rock The House Entertainment management chooses one team member who has exceededall expectations. With a team this passionate, it’s a harder job than you’d think. This month, however, Shane LaPlante really stood out. Not only did management feel Shane went above and beyond his job duties, but his peers did as well. He had a number of write-in votes for this honor by those he works with at each event.

Event Entertainment Disc Jockey

Shane has been a DJ with Rock The House since he joined the team in November of 2010. He established himself early as a driven team member by requesting sessions with senior DJs to learn as many tricks as he could. This drive was recognized as the start of a truly gifted entertainer. Other team members have stated that Shane pushes them to get better at what they do, and that is a trait that makes us all proud. Traditionally, our MCs are the leaders of our events, but this does not mean that the leadership mentality has to only be realized exclusively by the show leads. Shane leads by example. By making sure the client’s first impression of the DJ rig is always impressive (by keeping everything clean and taped down) he sets his other team members up for success.

Shane told us that his favorite part of an event is the moments of reflection after a show is complete. His drive pushes him to always look for ways things could have gone smoother, and to learn from the unique situations of every show. This hunger for growth and refinement is something you can’t teach. His advice to his team is to always smile and keep cool. It’s an entertainer’s job to stay in control and to be focused on the success of the event.  In doing so, an entertainer can adapt to any challenge.

One of the most impressive things about Shane is that he is one of the most requested DJs by both venue operators and Rock The House team leaders. It is pretty rare for a venue operator to request a DJ because they are not traditionally the event’s point of contact. Shane is proof that any member of our team, regardless of their role, can make a positive impression on our clients as well as industry peers.

Mitzvah Wedding Entertainment

When we asked Shane what it means to him to be a member of Rock The House, he said his training has given him the confidence to be on stage and never be nervous.  You can always tell that Shane is having fun, and that goes a long way in helping the guests have fun!

Thanks for all your hard work, Shane! You Rock!

Solon High School Rocks at Their Prom

Cleveland Lighting DJs at Signature of Solon in Solon, Ohio rock out for Solon High School’s Senior Prom. The Rock The House DJ / MC team brought unparalleled entertainment to Solon’s prom.  Our DJs are trained to read the crowd and have a musical expertise that could keep you moving all night! These guys know music of all kinds and they knew what this group of high schoolers would dance to. Our Emcee had every student on the floor for hours!  They coordinated with all the other prom professionals to make a special evening.  They ensured that everyone was able to relax and get excited for this event.

School dances are a Rock The House specialty.  Our Emcee proclaimed the Prom Court, King, and Queen.  The royal party then was led to dance by the King and Queen.  Rock The House Entertainment has been the leading entertainment provider for school dances in Northeast Ohio for over a decade. Let us show you what we can do for your next school dance – www.RTHgroup.com

Team Member of The Month – Ernie Scales

Rock The House Entertainment is rolling out a formal Team Member of The Month program coming out of our 2012 All Staff Meeting this April. That meant that management was faced with setting a precedent and prototype for this honor. What a relief it was for us to have just the person…Ernie Scales.

cleveland-dancer-entertainment

Head of Human Resources at Rock The House, Ryan Konikoff said:

“Selecting Ernie was an easy choice. So far, he holds the lead for the most requests in 2012 by clients. Every MC always asks to have him on their events, and he lives the idea of leading by example. Ernie takes dance classes in his free time to learn all different types of dance that may help him as a RTH dancer, he always has a smile on his face, and you can tell he just really love the job”

In the year and a half that Ernie has been with us, he has shown an eagerness to learn, consistency, drive, and character. This isn’t even mentioning his amazing skills! Don’t just take our word for it! He made it farther than hundreds of other competitive dancers at the 2012 “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 9 tryouts in Los Angeles. You can read more about that fascinating experience here.

Ernie says it best:

“What makes me a unique dancer is my passion. I use dancing to describe who I am and how I feel. I basically use dance to let people see my true personality. I live for dance and I dance to live. What makes a dancer unique is not about their moves it’s about heart.”

When we told Ernie he was selected to be the Team Member of the month he was grateful. He then told us he didn’t feel like he was a member of a team, however. To him, he’s a member of a family. We couldn’t agree more!

Rock Your Prom 2012 – Cleveland’s Best DJ / MC Team

Our first Rock Your Prom campaign has been a big success. We couldn’t be happier with the result of attention this has received due, in large part, to our partner 96.5 KISS FM Cleveland. KISS FM was the best type of partner we could ask for and we are excited to expand our already great relationship. We would also like to thank American Commodore Tuxedos for sponsoring this promotion. They had the insight to get on board for the first year of this and we’re hoping students take advantage of their services.

The winner will be announced Wednesday, March 14. We would like to thank everyone who voted and organized other voters.

We will be posting the big announcement very soon!
